The Islands of Hawaii
Oahu Most people spend some time on Oahu. This is the most populous of all the Hawaiian Islands and is where
you'll find Honolulu and Waikiki Beach, Pearl Harbor and the Arizona Memorial. A trip to Hawaii is not
complete without spending time here. You will also want to rent a car and drive to the North side of the
island to see the beautiful views along the way and stop at the Polynesian Cultural Center.
Oahu offers the bustle of the state's capitol, museums, energetic nightlife, shopping, and visitor attractions
of all sorts and descriptions. Oahu is best described as a blend of a modern city with one of the world's most famous beaches at its doorstep.
Kauai A Kauai Hawaii vacation is a trip to the "Garden Isle" and is considered the most beautiful of all the
Hawaiian Islands. Spectacular cliffs rise abruptly from the blue Pacific waters. Here you can explore the
lush green fields of Hanalei Valley, stroll the sands of Poipu Beach and take a helicopter tour of Waimea
Canyon. A Kauai vacation is probably one of the most spectacular vacations most people take.
You will want to view the spectacular scenery of the Na Pali coast. The sheer beauty of Kauai has made it a
favorite of honeymooners and those who want a more laid back vacation. There is plenty to do, but nature tends to be the focus.
Maui
A Maui vacation is probably the second most popular of the Hawaiian Islands after Oahu. Known as the
"Valley Island" it is dominated by the world's largest dormant volcano Haleakala called "House of the Sun"
by the polynesians. Here you can see the Iao Valley and view the Iao Needle. The drive to Hana is known
around the world as one of the most picturesque 120 miles on earth. In the evening shop in the historic
whaling era town of Lahaina. Contrast Lahaina with the nearby Kaanapali Beach with the mecca of
luxurious resorts located there. A Maui vacation offers a varied way to experience a stay in Hawaii.
Maui is known for its beautiful sunsets, water sports, selection of beaches world class golf and the town of
Lahina. This former whaling town has fine restaurants, interesting shops and is a collecting point in the
evening. You haven't been to Maui until you spend some time walking the streets and getting to know Lahina.
Lanai Lanai or the "Pineapple Island" is the least visited. With only 30 miles of paved roads on the entire island
Lanai remains an outpost of wilderness among the Hawaiian Islands. There are only 2 resorts on Lanai
worth looking into. The Lodge at Koele is a country estate located away from the beach in the wooded
highlands of the island. The Manele Bay Hotel is a Mediterranean style beach front resort.
The pace is unhurried with many activities including some not found at many place such as lawn bowling,
afternoon tea, and library reading rooms. Once famous for its rolling fields of pineapples, Lanai is upscale
and secluded. With only a couple of resort choices and limited availability it is the one island skipped by
most visitors.
